Why So Many Don’t Realise Their Dream To Travel

Most of us want to travel so why is it that so few of us actually do?

Let’s look at some of the reasons so many travel plans never take flight.

  • Ideas in your head are great fun and they are an important part of being inspired to travel and maintaining that motivation but ideas only get you so far. To many people are content to dream of travel and just wait for a good time to come along. The reality is those opportunities a few and far between and even when they do come your probably not really going to be prepared to take advantage of them. For the most part travel takes planning but before starting that open a savings account just for travel and begin depositing a set amount out of each pay packet this is a very important first step. Next plan destinations, budget and time frames. Subscribe to my RSS feed to get my upcoming posts on planning a trip from an idea to boarding the plane.
  • Our early plans are often grand and often too grand. We need to be realistic, you simply can’t see the whole world in a lifetime, you won’t have an enjoyable travel experience if you try and your likely to give up in the planning phase if your thinking too big.
  • Many people believe travel is more expensive than it really is, your 2 weeks a year don’t have to cost thousands, how does one thousand a month sound? It can be done, you just need to plan appropriately for what you want to do.
  • Do you want to gain something from travel or are you thinking of booze, beaches and parties? If that is what you want then you can do it at home and if you’re planning on doing it in developing countries on the cheap, even though the locals will happily take your money your not really helping them. Travel should be fun but not just a very big pub crawl. Think about traveling with a volunteer group, you’ll make plenty of friends, have a great time and the locals will think much more highly of you.

The biggest thing that prevents people from traveling is simply that for any number of reasons they don’t take action. In the coming weeks I’ll guide you through those first steps to getting your show on the road, so make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss out.

  1. Thanks for sharing and the very helpful tips.

“Do you want to gain something from travel or are you thinking of booze, beaches and parties?” Many people I meet want only ‘booze, beaches and parties’ - you are very right: it is best if they just stay at home. We here, in the developing countries, prefer helpful visitors.

  2. Great post, I am in the process of trying to make sure I plan a vacation this summer - having failed to do so, so far :-(

Photos from some previous travel to Yellowstone, Costa Rica, Glacier National Park, Paris…
