More Gear Shopping

I’ve now bought almost all of the gear on my list, there are only a few more relatively small things left that can wait.

I bought a waterproof jacket, boots, socks, thermals, some fuel and some zip-off travel pants (the type that turn into shorts), Sleeping Bag (Mont Spindrift), MSR Cookware, Hydration Bladder, Silk Liner, Sleeping Mat and there was probably more that I can’t remember, I’ll have to upload later the spreadsheet that lists all of the items and how much they cost, which so far is a little over $3000. I better make bloody good use of it.

I got Raichle Mt Peak boots too which are comfortable and seem quite good but I would have prefered the GTX version of the same boot which is just a different leather but they didn’t have it in stock. We went for a walk on one of the [tag]Mount Wellington[/tag] tracks yesterday to start breaking in our boots, no problems so far, Saturday was 30 odd Celcius and Sunday was high 20s so it was quite sweaty, Lesson one was finding out what temp you should start wearing shorts at.

So it’s not long now until Christmas and [tag]Cradle Mountain[/tag] and [tag]Freycienet[/tag] [tag]National Park[/tag], I’m looking forward to both, I really hope I can manage to take some good photos. They’ll be uploaded to the Gallery sortly after I get back.

We also had my GF’s work dinner on Saturday night, one of her bosses has been to [tag]New Zealand[/tag] walking a number of times and to a few other places around the globe. So he dispensed a bit of advice which was good.
