I just bought a tent. I thought I would have a browse on [tag]Ebay[/tag] and once again it’s come up trumps. Ebay Australia has really gone down hill in the last year, there are heaps less private sellers and there aren’t as many Ebay shops eigther. There is next to nothing availible that is actually worth bidding on now although there is still the odd good buy with the “buy it now” options. I was looking through the tents and as usual there were hardly any, mostly Australian brands made for summer family camping, I hit worldwide. Ahhh, tents actually made to withstand wind and rain, snow even. I had actually already narrowed the tent I wanted to get down to two already, so it wasn’t hard to find what I was looking for, a 4 season, 2 person tent, eigther a Eureka Alpenlite 2XT or [tag]MSR[/tag] Fusion 2, although I was pretty set on a Fusion 2.

And that is what I got, the price was about average for the US, I think….. yep, even cheaper than REI actually. The clincher was the shipping, $25US, most others I found were well above that. Total, just over $440AU. It was only available at two outlets in Australia, their best price $750AU, so I’m pretty happy with that. This will probably be the last major purchase of gear I make using Ebay, I can get everything else I need locally at a reasonable price.

I also had a look at some gear in town today, sleeping bags and backpacks. I’ve got the backpacks down to 2 possibles, it will just depend what price I can get the better one at. Sleeping bags aren’t going to be so easy, I’m really not sure where to go with them, mid range ones are hit and miss and top of the range are… well with a top of the range price tag.
