5 Reasons Why I Blog
When Nomad4Ever did this I thought about doing it myself but I don’t much like copying people, now that I’ve been tagged though by Dave at GoBackpacking (Which is a great blog I don’t think I’ve mentioned yet) I have an excuse, so here goes.
1. Documenting my travel expeiences
Travel isn’t just about seeing new countries, you can also see your own, my home state is a world class travel destination I think and it’s worth writing about what I do here, I also think it’s important to learn how to be a good tourist in your own area. I also find the planning part of travel quite fun and I know a lot of others do too.
2. Fun
SEO, CSS, HTML and all the rest can actually be quite fun, I used to build scale model and I find running a blog a setting it up how you want it, improving it and all the rest can actually give you the same type of satisfaction, plus it costs less and I’m more inclined to finish it.
3. Inspiration and keeping me on track
Whether it’s from research or reading others blogs blogging seems to send me to both, I get to be inspired and then I have an outlet for it too. I also started with the idea that if I tell everyone my plans I’m far more likely to stick to the track and eventually fulfill them and it’s doing a damn good job so far.
4. SharingÂ
The travel blog community was something I wanted to be a part of so that I could communicate with like minded people and hopefully provide them with a good resource or maybe just something they find interesting to read. Hopefully this blog and others will inspire others to do start their own or even better to see the world they live in.
5. Money
Obviously I have no Ads on my Blog but eventually I hope to generate some meager amount from them that could cover the hosting costs and maybe even contribute to the travel fund.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say I have gotten back into a compulsive design mode. I’m having a great time learning about PHP, CSS, SEO, plugins, and how to write for a bloggers’ audience. The more I find out, the less I really seem to know on all these topics.
I’ve also realized that getting to know bloggers around the world could make for some fun times once I hit the road! There is a guy I’ve been reading about now for 6 months, and I’m crossing my fingers he’ll swing through Washington, DC so I can buy him a beer.

5 Reasons Why I Blog…
Initially I started this blog because I thought I had recognized an unfilled niche. I had done a little Googling and came to the certain conclusion that there were, in fact, no quality travel blogs on the Internet besides the occasional “look at …
Thanks for tagging me, Daniel. I’ve posted my response for all to see here: http://www.vagabondish.com/5-reasons-why-i-blog. After reading a number of these memes on other travel blogs, it seems many of us do it for the similar reasons: to meet new people, as an ongoing diary, etc.
I think it’s great that so many people listed “helping other travelers by sharing my knowledge” as an important reason for their blogging. Travelers (especially RTW-ers) really do represent a great community.
